Abstract: This study describes an English course design for the Veterinary Science students. In the first chapter, TEFL background has shortly been given by showing its constant development during the history. After that, the meaning and general characteris tics of ESP as a new field of EFL have been represented. At the same time, purpose of the study, choice of materials, target group and limitations of the study have been expressed in this chapter. In the second chapter, the neccessity of preparing a curriculum design according to needs of the students before beginning an ESP course has been emphasized. Needs analysis and selection of the texts used in the course have been stated. The relevance of Semantics and Communi cative Approach to ESP has also been discussed in this chapter. In the third chapter, the nature of the scientific language and text analysis' relevance to course design have been defined in full. The use of discourse clues and con textual reading exercises in grasping the message of text has been suggested. In the forth chapter, teaching reading as a funda mental need of the science students have been presented. A lot of techniques to develop the students' logical under standing, creative thinking and prediction ability have been suggested. iiiIn the fifth chapter, application of some teaching materials in ESP class has been Represented. By means of a careful observation in the class, the deficiencies and advantages of these materials have been seen and discussed in this chapter. In the sixth chapter, the conclusion part has been taken place; and also the characteristics of a suitable ESP material, and further suggestions for the future have been stated.
