Abstract: This study investigated the effects of the recent Social Security Reforms, which were initiated in 1999 by Law No. 4447 and accomplished in 2008 by Law No. 5510, on old age pension, In the study, changes in old age pensions as to both laws individually were compared onfound on basis of the basis of former Law No. 506. The study revealed that in general, the reform will reduce the monthly pensions and will increase the difference between the lower and upper limits. Moreover, the dropecline in pensions will increase poverty and income inequalities among the elderlyr people in the future. It is argued that due to the reforms, the new Turkish Social Security System will not become a system that combatsfighting against poverty. On the contrary, it will both generate and deepen poverty.
