Plevne savunmasında Osmanlı piyadesinin rolü

Abstract

1877-1878 Osmanlı Rus Savaşı (93 Harbi) Osmanlı Devleti’nin katıldığı en büyük savaşlardan biridir. Bu savaşta Osmanlı ordusu gerek Rumeli gerekse Doğu Anadolu cephesinde büyük bir mücadele vermiştir. Rus orduları Rumeli cephesinde Tuna Nehri’ni aşarak Osmanlı topraklarında ilerlemeye başlamışlardır. Fakat Gazi Osman Paşa’nın Plevne’ye gelmesi ve onun kumandası altındaki Osmanlı kuvvetlerinin gösterdiği direniş, Rus ordusunun planlarını bozmuştur. Gazi Osman Paşa Rus kuvvetlerini üst üste üç defa yenilgiye uğratmıştır. Plevne ancak yardım kuvvetlerinin gelememesi ve Osmanlı kuvvetlerinin erzak ve cephanesinin bitmek üzere olmasıyla düşmüştür. Bu mücadelede Osmanlı piyadesi etkili bir performans sergilemiştir. Gazi Osman Paşa’nın kurdurduğu siper sistemine çabuk adaptasyon sağlamışlardır. Siperlerdeki yüksek ateş gücü sayesinde hücuma geçen Rus piyadelerini defalarca püskürtmeyi bilmişlerdir. Plevne’deki başarıları sayesinde Türk kuvvetlerinin savunma savaşlarında ne kadar etkili olabilecekleri bir kez daha görülmüştür. Ayrıca Plevne muharebelerinde siper savaşlarının yoğun hale geleceği ve siperlerdeki piyadelerin yeni silah teknolojikleriyle birlikte ateş gücünün çok yüksek olacağı ortaya çıkmıştır. Artık meydan muharebelerinden ziyade siper savaşlarının yaygınlık kazanması ve siperlerde, savunma pozisyonundaki kuvvetlerin avantajda olduğu bir dönem söz konusudur. Bu dönüşümün dünya savaş tarihi bağlamında ortaya çıkmasında Plevne’deki Osmanlı piyadesinin rolü büyük önem arz etmektedir. Ayrıca Plevne’deki Osmanlı piyadelerinin ve diğer birliklerin gösterdiği direniş, dünya kamuoyunun da dikkatini çekmiş, savaşta Osmanlı Devleti’nin lehine olumlu havanın esmesini sağlamıştır.

The Ottoman Russian War (93 War), which took place in 1877-1878, was one of the greatest wars of the Ottoman Empire. In this war, the Ottoman army fought a great struggle both on the Rumelian and Eastern Anatolian fronts. The Russian armies crossed the Danube on the Rumelian front and began to advance on Ottoman soil. However, the arrival of Gazi Osman Pasha to Plevna and the resistance of the Ottoman forces under his command disrupted the plans of the Russian army. Gazi Osman Pasha defeated the Russian forces three times in a row. Plevna fell only because the aid forces could not come and the supplies and ammunition of the Ottoman forces were almost finished. Ottoman infantry played an effective role in this struggle. They quickly adapted to the trench system established by Gazi Osman Pasha. Thanks to the high firepower in the trenches, they succeeded in repelling the Russian infantry who attacked many times. Thanks to their success in Plevna, they have once again demonstrated how effective Turkish forces can be in defense wars. In addition, the role of the Ottoman infantry in Plevna has now shown that trench battles will be intense in wars, and that infantry in trenches will have a very high firepower with new weapon technologies. There is now a period in which trench battles are intense and the defense forces in the trench are advantageous. The role of the Ottoman infantry in Plevna has great importance in terms of military history. In addition, the resistance of the Ottoman infantry and other troops in Plevna attracted the attention of the world public and ensured the positive atmosphere in favor of the Ottoman Empire in the war.
