Çokkültürlülük ve Türkiye’deki görünümü

Abstract

Çokkültürlülük 1980lerle birlikte modern topluma ve ulus devlet modeline getirilen eleştiriler ile artan küreselleşme eğilimleri sonucu yaygınlık kazanmış bir sosyo-kültürel olgudur. Ekonomik ve siyasi dengelerdeki değişimlerin de bir sonucu olan çokkültürlülük, gebe olduğu değişimlerden ötürü ekonomik ve siyasi gelişmeleri etkilemeye de adaydır. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’deki çokkültürlülük anlayışının ortaya çıkışının temel saikleri birbirine zıt gibi görünen tarihsel yaklaşımlarla irdelenmektedir. Türkiye’de 20. yüzyılın sonlarından bu yana alevlenmiş görünen çokkültürlülük tartışmalarının, zaman içinde ortak bir Türklük üst kimlik kavramına götüreceği düşünülebilir.

Multiculturalism is a socio-cultural phenomenon that became widespread due to the criticisms made against modern societies and nation-state models spcecifically after 1980s. Multiculturalism has the potentials to affect economic and political developments in the future, as much as and due to the fact that it is a result of the developments of such economic and political changes. The fundamentals of multicultural thought in Turkey are gone through in this paper with respect to different historical approaches that seem opposite to each other. It can be thought that the multiculturalism discussions that seem to have been revived since the end of the 20th century might take to a common upper-identity that could be named as Turkishness.
